Die Engineer

The Tool & Die Engineer will apply knowledge to support launch, improvement, and optimization of tooling for new and ongoing stamping programs. This candidate will be a resource for Die Maintenance, Production, and Quality areas utilizing his/her technical expertise.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Create, document, develop and deliver procedures to ensure dies are capable of meeting all targets relating to Quality, Cost and Delivery;
  • Support the Program Management team with evaluation of new work, processes, engineering changes and tooling;
  • Participate in launch and engineering change teams, supporting all tooling related activities and executing projects for implementation of changes;
  • Develop and maintain die drawing library;
  • Assist Tool & Die Technicians during major damage issues and troubleshooting activities;
  • Assist with development and implementation of corrective and preventative maintenance procedures as well as train technicians in their use;
  • Support the Tool & Die department with root cause analysis and repair plans;
  • Remain current with all tool and die industry technology and advances, recommending and implementing best practices and products;
  • Support the Quality group in evaluation and improvement of product dimensional reports;
  • Track and follow up on new program tooling scheduled for facility, evaluate existing tooling, and develop in source plans for tools moving to facility;
  • Lead team meetings when implementing engineering changes, improvements, and major repairs;
  • Identify, develop, and deliver training relevant to tool and die operations;
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of process documentation, including standardized work instructions;
  • Communicate with vendors, contractors and shops for all new tooling and repairs of existing tools;
  • Resolve issues with tooling vendor(s) and assist team with establishment of process parameters;
  • Assist with development of spare parts requirements and assist with procurement options;
  • Support maintenance through spare part usage minimization and achievement of R&M Budget targets;
  • Recommend and implement process and SPM improvements through optimization of tooling;
  • Improve overall processes and related issues by taking a pro-active lead in Continuous Improvement activities;
  • Assist with the design, installation and de-bug of machinery and capital equipment;
  • Understand and adhere to all required GPS standards;
1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other related technical discipline plus three (3) years of experience as a Tool & Die Engineer in metal stamping for a Tier I or Tier II automotive supplier;
2. -or- Associate of Science degree in Engineering or other related technical discipline plus five (5) years of Tool & Die experience in metal stamping for a Tier I or Tier II automotive supplier;
3. -or- Seven (7) plus years of experience and training in a similar role and environment.
