A large Tier I automotive supplier with a plant located in Kentucky and south of Evansville, IN has an immediate need to fill their position of Supplier Quality Engineer.

Job Description

 Duties & Responsibilities
  • Supervise receiving/inspection personnel
  • Develop/maintain receiving inspection instructions for incoming parts and components
  • Report incoming quality issues to suppliers and follow-up corrective action responses
  • Track supplier development through:
    • Monthly performance reviews
  • Review/Maintain supplier PPAP submissions
  • Notify suppliers of engineering changes
  • Coordinate supplier engineering change requests
  • Assists the Engineering and Manufacturing departments with developing flow diagrams, F.M.E.A.’s, work instructions, and all other necessary pre-production planning documentation.
  • Reviews and approves / disapproves customer drawings, specifications, revisions and related production documents.
  • Develops and implements quality policy and procedures utilizing company quality policies and procedures.
  • Familiar with failure analysis for non-conforming product, charts data and recommends corrective action procedures.
  • Resolves routine and complex problems relating to quality and inspection. Evaluates parts returned by customer; provides non-conforming and correction reports. Confers and corresponds with customers on inspection results.
  • Develops and implements piece part inspection and sorting plans.
  • Operates internal quality related software SQTS, QTS, etc.
  • Operates quality related software relevant to customer systems i.e. CQMS, NCT, ECIM, & WCM etc.
  • Familiar with quality related problem solving tools i.e. 5-Why, 4M, PDCA etc.
  • Enforces quality standards based on customer specifications and corporate quality goals. May inspect borderline parts and designate as ‘approved / rejected’.
  • Conducts quality meetings with employees to resolve / solve quality issues (Drive events, Kaizen).
  • Provides guidance to quality techs and quality cage personnel.
  • Must be familiar with TS16949 specifications and requirements.
  • Understanding of the audit process including types of audits (TS, QPS, CSA, LPA), planning, preparation, execution, reporting results, and follow-up.
  • Familiar with gage calibration systems and equipment.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area (5s).
  • Receive, understand and follow all written and oral instruction.
  • Communicate all problems and other work related issues to Manager.
  • Timely completion of all paperwork associated with position.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including safety and attendance requirements.
  • Participate in activities to increase personal skill level, overall departmental processes and product quality.
  • Resolve day-to-day issues by working effectively with others.
  • Maintain meet or exceed rating on all performance evaluations.
  • Follow the company safety rules and other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
  • Performs Supplier Quality Systems Surveys and supplier process reviews.
  •  Works with the CLIENT  Buyer to gather information and make decisions relevant to product sourcing.
  •  Reviews and approves supplier QTS submissions.
  • Supports CLIENT  Design with VA/VE ideas for purchased components & materials.
  •  Provides technical support for purchasing and production personnel.
  •  Contacts suppliers and provides feedback on quality issues.
  •  Performs technical and statistical investigations and analysis on supplier-related quality issues using standard CLIENT  problem solving method.
  •  Coordinates resolution of supplier-related quality issues and implementation of countermeasures with other CLIENT  departments.
  •  Prepares and audits procedures and records for inspection and testing of purchased products.
  •  Makes recommendations to CLIENT  design department regarding possible improvements to component parts that would reduce total cost, increase productivity, and improve process capability.
  •  Develops fail-safes and improvements to manufacturing conditions, processes, equipment, jigs, and production line flow.
  •  Works with CLIENT  manufacturing engineers on labor saving methods for increased automation.
  •  Analyzes CLIENT  processes to reduce defects (process review).
  •  Performs other duties as assigned


  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or a related discipline
  • 3-5 years QE experience in an automotive environment
  • Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

    • Technical and Business writing skills
    • Organizational and planning skills
    • Business software packages, including MS Office
    • Written and verbal communications and presentation skills
    • Knowledge of AIAG PPAP requirements
